Voices of the Faithful:Book 2 (Review)

By , 12 August, 2011, No Comment

Voices of the Faithful, Book 2 by Beth Moore, is a collection of inspiring stories of courage from Christians serving around the world in the mission field. Each daily devotion has a short story written by a missionary about his or her experiences in the mission field. Some are funny, and others will bring you to tears.

Beth Moore did a great job in compiling the perfect stories and devotionals for her books, all of which are very inspiring. This second book is just as good as the first if not better. I have really enjoyed reading the book day by day and learning great lessons about god from other peoples life stories.

The goal of the book as stated by Beth Moore in the introduction is to make you “motivated to pray”. Not only did I feel motivated to pray but the Voices of the Faithful books really make me long to go on another mission trip. Some of the themes  from the book include:  prayer the priority, lost and found, lessons from the young, and hope for the world.

Like the first book each inspiring story is only a page long making it the perfect daily devotion for the mom on the go.

I HIGHLY recommend both Voices of the Faithful Book 1 and Book 2.

Voices of the Faithful- Review

By , 2 January, 2011, No Comment

This is such a neat book. I was excited when I received my copy of Beth Moore’s book entitled ” Voices of the Faithful”. What a perfect title. This is a great devotional book that encompasses different daily devotions from missionaries all around the world. It is my goal to follow the daily inspiration into the new year and enjoy learning lessons from others about god. I love that each day there is a verse that is also accompanied by a prayer along with a story that correlates. Each day’s read is only a page so it is definitely manageable with a busy schedule. I can’t wait to read more.

The Kings Christmas List

I had the pleasure to review The Kings Christmas List by Eldon Johnson. It is a super cute book about a little girl (Emma) and her dog (Shu-Shu) who got an invitation to the Kings birthday party. This cute book has a series of events that Emma and Shu-Shu are presented with. When they finally reach the Kings birthday party they are in good company for the good deeds  they have done have been watched the whole time by the King himself. At the end of the book you realize that the King is in fact God. It is a great book and a reminder about the true meaning of Christmas. I would highly recommend this book and it will be part of our family Christmas from here on out.

Captivating

tr.v. cap·ti·vat·edcap·ti·vat·ingcap·ti·vates

1. To attract and hold by charm, beauty, or excellence. See Synonyms at charm.
2. Archaic To capture.

I thought this was an interesting book. I have read reviews previous to reading this book as I had heard it was somewhat controversial. This book proposes that women have three core desires: “to be romanced, to play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, and to unveil beauty.” It also proposes that God made woman as the “Crown of Creation”, an embodiment of God’s beauty, mystery and vulnerability. It proposes that femininity complements men’s innate desires for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue. I agreed with some of these things but could easily see why there is so much controversy behind this book. Yes, I am glad to have read it and yes, I think it was interesting but no it hasn’t drastically changed my life or way of living. Will I read it again? Probably not!

Essentials for Life

I review for BookSneeze

So recently I found out about Book Sneeze. It is a website where you can pick a book for free with the expectation that you will give them  an unbiased opinion of the book.

I picked :

Marcia Ford’s book : Essentials for Life; Your Back to Basics Guide to What Matters Most

I picked this book because I saw it was a devotional book. I often find it hard to just jump in the Bible and thought it would be fun to have a new study devotional to help me. This devotional book turned out to be perfect for me. I enjoyed this devotional as it has short lessons that are practical for a working mom. It didn’t take up too much of my time so I found it was easy to stick with it  and it was very interesting. I even found myself reading two devotionals at a time. It also has neat side notes and scriptures. The book is small enough to fit in your purse. It was convenient when I went to the Doctor’s office and I could read through the book while I was in the waiting area then was able to look up verses on my iphone Bible. It doesn’t get much more convenient that that. I will for sure check out other devotional books by Marcia Ford.
